PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

About Public Engagement
A critical part of this study is soliciting input from members of the New Mexico community about the goals and priorities for NM public schools. This input is being solicited in three ways:

  1. A targeted web-based survey of principals, superintendents, representatives of teachers, and other key constituents. This survey solicits input on what these representatives consider priorities for the New Mexico education system and the means to achieve these priorities.
  2. A publicly available web-based survey identical to the targeted survey described above but which is directed more broadly to teachers, parents, business officials and community members to participate.
  3. A series of town hall meetings in different regions of the state. These town hall meetings will seek to gather input on what the public consider priorities for the New Mexico education system and creates a forum for discussion on the different components of the study. Please see the calendar below for a schedule of these town hall meetings.

Public feedback will be synthesized into a goals statement for New Mexico public schools, and presented to carefully selected panels of highly qualified and recognized educators selected by the AIR research team. These panels will be asked to develop instructional program designs to achieve the New Mexico goals and priorities and will then be asked to specify the resources and services necessary to deliver those programs to students throughout the state. Public input on goals provides critical information to the AIR research team in developing the foundation and basis for the work of these panels of educators and for the analysis of public school costs for New Mexico.

Calendar of Town Hall Meetings
The project is looking to arrange town hall meetings throughout the state, and many meetings have already been scheduled. Please click on any meeting for more information on exact time and location.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information or to try to arrange a town hall meeting in your area, please contact Dr. Karen DeMoss at 505-277-2030 or mailto:demoss@unm.edu.
